Things to Do in Bidart and on the Basque Coast

Kaliko is an ideal starting point: the beaches of Bidart are within walking distance, the greenway and the Vélodyssée are right in front of the property, and Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz are just a few minutes away.

Surfing

Beaches and surf clubs are just a few minutes away. For lessons, contact our partner, L’École de la Glisse, directly—a school certified by the École Française de Surf and located on Erretegia Beach in Bidart. Its instructors, who are competitive surfers, offer year-round lessons for all skill levels: introductory, beginner, advanced, private lessons, and 5-day camps. Children ages 6 to 10 have their own classes, called “Grommets.”

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced surfer, Bidart's beaches are perfect for all skill levels. After your session, you can store your board in our secure storage area, and a hot shower awaits you in our changing rooms.

Bicycle

The Vélodyssée and the greenway run right past the door. To rent an e-bike, our partner Bidart Bike delivers the bikes directly to Kaliko and picks them up at the end of your rental. They also offer bike sales, repairs, and guided tours to help you explore the coast in a different way.

The Vélodyssée runs along the Atlantic coast all the way to Hendaye: from Kaliko, which has been certified as an “Accueil Vélo” facility, you can reach Guéthary, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, or Biarritz without a car. On your way back, your bike will be safely stored in our secure bike storage area.

Golf

Just a few minutes from Kaliko, the Arcangues Golf Course features an 18-hole course (par 72) set on rolling terrain facing the Pyrenees. Its clubhouse is housed in a Basque farmhouse dating from 1585, with a terrace overlooking the mountains. Visiting licensed golfers can book a green fee there: we’ll help you organize your round. You can also play at the Chantaco Golf Course in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the 9-hole Milady course in Biarritz, or the legendary Phare de Biarritz course.

Basque Pelota

Pelota, the iconic sport of the Basque Country, can be discovered with Ona Pilota: Patxi and Jon, world champions in cesta punta, offer introductory sessions and lessons for families and friends at the region’s frontons, for a unique and accessible experience.

The fronton in Bidart, in the heart of the village, also hosts matches all summer long: a great opportunity to discover this iconic Basque sport.
